The Drug Eradication Desk consisting of the National Drugs Agency (BNN), Indonesian National Military (TNI), Customs and Excise, and Indonesian National Police (INP) managed to thwart the smuggling of 2 tons of crystal methamphetamine from Sea Dragon Terawa motorboat from Thailand to the waters of the Riau Islands.

Head of the BNN, Marthinus Hukom  said that this disclosure was the second thwarting of large-scale drug smuggling in the Riau Islands region in May 2025.

"This is the second disclosure of large-scale drugs, with evidence of 2 tons," said Hukom in Batam, Monday (2/26/2025).

He explained that in the disclosure of this case, six suspects were secured, consisting of four Indonesian citizens with the initials HS, LC FR and RH, and two Thai citizens with the initials WP and TL.

The former Head of Densus 88 of the INP explained that information on the smuggling of crystal methamphetamine using a motorboat crossing Indonesian waters was obtained from intelligence reports, then processed and analyzed until the joint team conducted mapping and observation along the waters of the Riau Islands.

"So this disclosure takes time from the information being received, then the data is processed and mapping is carried out," he said.

On Wednesday (5/21/2025), the joint team stopped the motor ship Sea Dragon Tarawa in the middle of the sea because it was strongly suspected of being the target of the operation.

During the search, he continued, the joint team found 31 brown cardboard boxes wrapped in clear plastic containing dozens of green plastic packages of Guanyinwang tea.

"The packages contained crystal powder suspected of crystal methamphetamine," he said.

In addition, the joint team found 36 brown cardboard boxes in the fuel tank under the ship. So that the total evidence found on the ship amounted to 67 cardboard boxes containing 2,000 packages of crystal methamphetamine.

The BNN is firm in prosecuting drug perpetrators with the suspects charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1), Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2008 concerning Narcotics, with a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment.
