inp.polri.go.id - Bekasi. Bekasi Sub-regional Metro Police arrested eight people who counterfeited cosmetic products with the trademark 'GlowGlowing' which were produced illegally in a residential area in the Pondok Ungu Permai Housing Complex, Babelan, Bekasi Regency, West Java.
"We arrested eight people and named them as suspects, including the business owner with the initials SP and seven employees, namely ES, DI, IG, S, AS, UH and RP," said Bekasi Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Mustofa in Cikarang, Monday (5/26/2025).
He said the perpetrators deliberately counterfeited brands that were already well-known in the market to speed up the sales process so that they could reap huge profits in a short time.
The counterfeit products were sold through well-known online stores such as Shopee and Lazada at prices of IDR 50,000 to IDR 150,000 per package, much cheaper than the original product which is priced at IDR 150,000 to IDR 300,000.
"The cheap price of their products is what makes consumers tempted to buy this fake product," he said.
Chief Mustofa said the modus operandi of their operation was to buy raw materials and packaging online and then mix them haphazardly at home without safety standards or clinical trials.
"They learned this process autodidactically. The turnover of this illegal business is estimated to have reached IDR 1.2 billion in the last two years or around IDR 50 million per month," he said.
The suspects were charged under Articles 435 and 436 of Law 17/2023 concerning health, Article 100 paragraph (2) of Law 20/2016 concerning brands and Article 55 of the Criminal Code with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison plus a fine of IDR 5 billion.
