Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police revealed that RA (36), a father in Tangerang, sold his 11-month-old baby for Rp15 million to buy two mobile phones and fund online gambling.

"The money was used to buy two phones, for daily expenses, and for online gambling," said Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Ade Ary Syam Indradi on Monday (7/10/2024).

The couple who bought the baby, identified asHK (32) and MON (30), claimed they had been childless for 10 years.

The sale was uncovered through cooperation between police and the Tangerang City Government. The police arrested RA, the seller, and HK and MON, the buyers.

RA contacted the couple through a Facebook post offering to buy a toddler. He then arranged a meeting and brought his baby, previously cared for by his mother-in-law, to Tangerang.

The suspects face up to 15 years in prison under  Law No. 35/2014 on Child Protection.
