Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi reaffirmed Indonesia's unwavering support for Palestine during the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Headquarters in Geneva on Tuesday (12/12/23). "Firstly, as the elected candidate for a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Indonesia reasserts its commitment to strengthen political solidarity and humanitarian support for Palestine, including by tripling its contribution to UNRWA," she declared. Highlighting Indonesia's dedication to international human rights, Minister Retno announced progress in ratifying the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance. Upon approval, Indonesia will have ratified all core international human rights instruments. Further, Minister Retno emphasized Indonesia's commitment to championing the rights of persons with disabilities, reinforcing the National Commission on Disability and implementing the National Strategy on Business and Human Rights. Beyond national commitments, she conveyed the collective dedication of ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste to strengthen regional human rights cooperation, stating, "We aim to enhance regional collaboration on human rights, aligning with the ASEAN Leaders' Declaration on the ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue adopted at the 43rd ASEAN Summit." During her Geneva visit, Minister Retno discussed Myanmar issues with Thant Myint-U, participating as a joint panelist in the 'Roundtable: the Future of Human Rights, Peace, and Security' on the 75th Anniversary's second day, showcasing Indonesia's active role.
