Inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang. The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO) predicted the number of hybrid cars to hit 70,000 units by the end of 2024.
The hybrid car segment has seen rapid growth, with the number of such vehicles rising from 10,000 in 2022 to 55,000 in 2023. By May 2024, nearly 32,000 hybrid vehicles had been recorded, according to antaranews.com.
GAIKINDO Chairman Yohanes Nangoi attributed on Saturday night (27/7/2024) this growth to increased consumer awareness of the fuel efficiency and lower emissions of hybrid cars.
"People are realizing that hybrids are more fuel-efficient and have lower emissions. The prices are becoming more competitive," he added.
In contrast, the growth of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) is slower. BEV sales reached 10,000 units in 2022 and 17,000 units in 2023, with 13,000 units sold by May 2024. Nangoi projects BEV sales could hit 30,000 units by year-end.
Yohanes noted that the slower BEV growth is due to infrastructure challenges and higher costs, though improvements are underway.
