Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, raised his confidence that Indonesia will play a key role in the global electric vehicle (EV) industry due to its vast natural resources.

Speaking at the Repnas National Conference & Awarding Night in Jakarta on Monday (14/10/2024, he highlighted Indonesia's significant nickel reserves as a crucial factor.

“Indonesia has a unique comparative advantage when it comes to green energy and green industry,” Minister Bahlil said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He cited a recent U.S. Geological data showing that Indonesia holds 40-45% of the world's nickel reserves, a jump from the previously estimated 20%.

Nickel is essential for producing EV batteries, which make up 40% of an electric car's components. Bahlil emphasized that Indonesia is rich in nickel, manganese, and cobalt, further strengthening its position in the global supply chain for EVs and green technology.

Minister Bahlil also said that Indonesia's decision to stop exporting raw nickel has faced international pressure due to the nation's massive reserves.
