The Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Budi Gunawan said that his party had succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of illegal goods worth IDR 3.7 trillion during the 100-day term of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's administration.

The effort of thwarting the smuggling of illegal goods was a follow up on President's order to boost local products quality amidst the bombardment of foreign goods.

"This is our joint effort, both the law enforcer and locals who proactively report any illegal activities," says Budi on Thursday (1/30/2025).

He explains that in this effort some of the types of goods confiscated include illegal cigarettes, electronic goods, cosmetics, lobster seeds, alcoholic beverages, and other commodities.

In addition to securing several pieces of evidence, the government also arrested 552 people who were members of an international illegal goods trading network.

With this prevention, the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs hopes that the circulation of illegal goods in Indonesia will go down as the domestic industry get better.

He also asked the public to support the government in helping to prevent the entry of illegal goods into the country.

"The government will continue to increase supervision and action so that there are no loopholes for smugglers to abuse," said the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan.
