Inp.polri.go.id - Surakarta. A total of 780 police officers have been deployed to secure the XVII National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Surakarta, Central Java, from 6 to 13 October 2024.
Central Java Regional Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Artanto confirmed on Sunday (6/10/2024) that the security team includes personnel from the Surakarta Police and Central Java Police.
“Security forces are assigned to each competition venue,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
In addition, security measures will be in place along the routes taken by each contingent traveling to and from the venues. A contingency task force is also prepared for unexpected situations during Peparnas.
The 2024 Peparnas will feature competitions in 20 sports, including para-archery, para-athletics, para-badminton, boccia, para-chess, para-cycling, cerebral palsy football, para-table tennis, judo for the visually impaired, para-powerlifting, para-shooting, para-swimming, para-taekwondo, sitting volleyball, tenpin bowling, wheelchair fencing, and wheelchair tennis.
Two exhibition sports, para-e-sports and wheelchair basketball, will also be included. A total of 5,178 athletes from 35 provinces are set to compete, with the event opened by President Joko Widodo.
