Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry Alue Dohong, alongside Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Nairobi Mohamad Hery Saripudin and officials from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, and the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi, actively participated in and advocated for national interests at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) 6 in Nairobi, Kenya. "Indonesia has significantly improved land, water, and air quality through comprehensive, innovative, and integrated pollution control measures, focusing on optimizing waste management (upstream-downstream) and promoting a circular economy within the framework of Zero Waste, Zero Emission 2030," stated Deputy Minister Alue on Sunday (3/3/2034). He also highlighted Indonesia's commitment to sustainable mangrove management through climate-resilient mangrove initiatives and the establishment of the World Mangrove Center, as reported by antaranews.com. Indonesia showcased its achievements in water management, set to be featured at The 10th World Water Forum in May in Bali, and welcomed participation from all stakeholders. Moreover, Indonesia extended invitations to several other countries to collaborate on sustainable mangrove conservation, restoration, and management efforts, with goals including preventing and addressing mangrove pollution and forest conversion, enhancing research and public awareness about mangrove management, and mobilizing resources for sustainable conservation and restoration. UNEA, comprised of 193 UN Member States, serves as the highest decision-making body globally for setting policy priorities to address environmental issues such as circular economy practices, effective multilateral actions towards climate justice, solar radiation modification, sound chemical and waste management, as well as sand and dust storm mitigation. Over 5,000 delegates from 139 UN Member States, including approximately 60 ministers and 50 officials at the deputy minister and director-general levels, attended UNEA-6, held from February 26 to March 1, 2024. UNEA-6 concluded with a Ministerial Declaration urging increased efforts to combat climate change, support ecosystem restoration, combat land degradation and deforestation, transition to sustainable agricultural and fisheries production, promote sustainable forest management, achieve a just and sustainable energy transition, manage minerals and metals in an environmentally friendly manner, engage constructively in negotiations on international instruments related to plastic pollution, and enhance cooperation to address pollution and improve chemical and waste management. During the event, Indonesia also hosted a side event titled "World Mangrove Center - Leading by Example," highlighting its leadership in mangrove conservation and emphasizing the importance of global cooperation, including through the establishment of the World Mangrove Center.
