Inp.polri.go.id - Thailand. Indonesia and Cambodia reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate in the fight against human trafficking crimes (TPPO) during the 26th ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (DGICM) forum, which convened in Phuket, Thailand, from August 8th to 11th. "During the meeting, I underscored that numerous Indonesian citizens have fallen victim to online gambling, cyber fraud, and even organ sales," stated Director General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Silmy Karim on Friday (8/11/23). Cambodian delegation revealed, he added, that while online gambling had been previously legalized in their country, licenses for both online and offline gambling operations were revoked and deemed illegal as of June 2019. In the year 2022, a targeted operation unfolded in Sihanoukville, a suspected epicenter of gambling activities, resulting in the apprehension of more than 200 individuals, a substantial proportion originating from Indonesia. Following the operation, Indonesian citizens identified as victims found solace under the protective wing of the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh, temporarily receiving aid through social service initiative. "Those who are not classified as victims were confined to Cambodian Immigration detention centers," he said. He further mentioned that the topic of organ trafficking, occurring within a Cambodian hospital, was also a point of discussion. This information was new to the Cambodian government. (ay/hn/nm)
