Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is in the process of blocking websites found advertising small islands in the Anambas region for sale or lease.
“Our investigation has identified several websites offering islands, either for rent or purchase,” said Alexander Sabar, the Director General of Digital Space Supervision i, in a statement on Tuesday (24/6/2025). “We are now moving to block these sites.”
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries had earlier requested the Communication to take down such websites, citing concerns over territorial integrity and legal violations.
One ad titled “Island Pair in Anambas, Indonesia” reportedly promoted four uninhabited islands: Ritan, Tokongsendok, Nakok, and Mala.
“There is no such thing as the sale of islands in Indonesian law. Only legal and limited marine spatial utilization is permitted,” said Koswara, the Director General for Marine Spatial Management, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Authorities are considering further bans if site operators ignore takedown warnings.
