Inp.polri.go.id - New York. Indonesia raised concerns over the leadership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in maintaining peace, citing the deteriorating situation in Palestine.
During a high-level Open Debate at the UN headquarters, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi emphasized the Council's failure in addressing the crisis.
“We are here discussing leadership in peace, yet peace remains elusive for the Palestinian people,” she said, as quoted by antaranews.com..
With over 41,000 lives lost, millions displaced, and restricted access to aid, Retno said it is time to question the world’s sense of humanity. “If the UNSC cannot fulfill its mandate to ensure peace, what remains of its credibility?”
Indonesia urged reforms for a more democratic decision-making process to prevent delays in addressing global threats. Minister Retno concluded by stressing that peace cannot wait for the future; actions must begin now.
