inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has successfully reduced mortality rates and increased life expectancy, with 11.75 percent of the population now elderly.
Deputy for the Ministry of National Development Planning Maliki predicts that this number will increase by more than 20 percent by 2045.
He explains that the Indonesian government has adopted the National Strategy for the Elderly (SNLU) through Presidential Regulation No. 88 of 2021 which aims to create an independent, prosperous, dignified life.
Meanwhile, his party has completed the long-term development plan draft which covers various important issues such as public protection and prosperity.
“We have to see aging as a lifelong process with a cross-sector approach," said Deputy Maliki on Wednesday (9/11/2024).
Maliki says that starting from the first 1000 days of life, people must prepare to ensure that the elderly can take part in development, not just be the object of the development. An intergenerational approach is very important for the preparation of a happy old age.
Meanwhile, The Vice Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono says that the elderly population in the world is growing in 2050 where at least one out of five people is above 60 years old. In Pacific Asia itself, the population of the elders is growing rapidly.
Dante adds that his party is developing integrated primary health care services that focus on all stages of life, not only on mothers and children, but also on the elderly.
