Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bank Indonesia (BI) announced that its Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) is expected to be usable in China by the end of 2025.
“God willing, by year-end we can implement two-way QR Indonesia-China payments, both inbound and outbound,” said BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta during the central bank’s August Board of Governors Meeting on Wednesday (20/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The rollout is currently in a limited sandbox trial with the People’s Bank of China (PBoC), involving the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI), UnionPay International (UPI), and two major Chinese payment providers.
QRIS cross-border expansion follows earlier milestones, including its launch in Japan on August 17, 2025, through JPQR Global. BI reported that overall QRIS transactions surged 162.77% year-on-year in July, reflecting strong digital payment adoption.
Alongside QRIS, BI also noted growth across retail payments via BI-Fast and large-value transfers through BI-RTGS, highlighting Indonesia’s accelerating shift toward digital financial infrastructure.
