Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) issued a warning of Tuesday (7/5/2024) regarding cyber crimes, particularly email scams, urging the public to stay vigilant against fraudulent activities.
Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, the INP Criminal Investigation Agency’s Director of Cyber Criminal Investigation, highlighted the prevalence of phishing scams, where scammers manipulate email addresses to deceive recipients.
Earlier that day, the directorate uncovered a syndicate defrauding a Singaporean real estate company, resulting in a Rp32 billion loss.
Five suspects, including Nigerian nationals and Indonesians, were arrested for their involvement in these scams.
Chief Himawan emphasized the importance of verifying emails from unknown sources, cross-checking information, and reporting suspicious activities to authorities to expedite investigations.
