Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Mount Ibu erupted at 1.58 am on Wednesday (7/5/2024) in Halmahera, emitting an ash column reaching approximately 2,000 meters above the summit.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the ash, observed in gray to black color, dispersed towards the east and southeast.

Seismic activity recorded a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of 127 seconds, according to antaranews.com.

Residents and tourists within a 2 km radius were advised to avoid outdoor activities, with a sectoral expansion of 3.5 km towards the northern opening of the active crater. Protective gear was recommended for those outdoors during potential ashfall.

Authorities urged compliance with local government instructions and cautioned against spreading misinformation or being swayed by unclear sources.

Mount Ibu, standing at 1,325 meters above sea level, lies northwest of Halmahera Island, classified as Level II (Alert). Its summit features a volcanic crater 1 kilometer wide and 400 meters deep, with outer dimensions spanning 1.2 kilometers.

On 28 April 2024, Mount Ibu experienced various seismic events, including explosive earthquakes, avalanches, emissions, harmonic and tornillo earthquakes, along with numerous volcanic and tectonic tremors.
