Inp.polri.go.id - Labuan Bajo. The 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), wrapped up its today's session, paving the way for a continuation of discussions tomorrow. During the course of today's AMMTC session, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP) and Chair of AMMTC, orchestrated significant strides by sealing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with six pivotal nations. The signatory countries for the MoU encompass Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia, collectively underlining their commitment to collaborative action against the proliferation of transnational crimes. Additionally, the MoU signing also relates to enhancing inter-country capacity building. Previously, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo officially inaugurated the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). In his opening address, Sigit emphasized that the discussions at AMMTC should be driven by the spirit of prioritizing regional security and stability to achieve prosperity within ASEAN. "Throughout our discussions, a recurring tenet must remain, namely the safeguarding of our citizenry and the reinforcement of regional stability are prerequisites for cultivating prosperity across ASEAN," he stated during the AMMTC session at Hotel Meruorah's Ballroom in Labuan Bajo, NTT, on Monday (21/8/23). Furthermore, he underscored the common challenge that ASEAN nations collectively confront: the scourge of transnational crime that transcends geographical boundaries, national sovereignties, and legal parameters. "Our observations elucidate the evolutionary tactics of transnational crimes, encompassing the exploitation of gaps and leveraging technological advancements," he remarked, acknowledging the multifaceted and adaptive nature of these threats. Consequently, he advocated for a unified approach to deter and suppress transnational criminal activities, namely a concerted collaboration in law enforcement. "In the pursuit of fortifying our resolve against transnational crimes, our unified action must mirror a single cohesive entity, simultaneously respecting the legal frameworks unique to each nation," he said. Echoing these sentiments, he recounted the steadfast stance of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, who consistently champions the transformation of ASEAN into a bastion of stability and tranquility, anchoring global equilibrium. Moreover, this transformation necessitates an unwavering adherence to international legal norms, coupled with a resolute commitment to remain impervious to proxy agendas. A dignified ASEAN, upholding human values and democratic principles, is a cardinal aspiration. "Positioning itself as a dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable economic epicenter is pivotal to its evolution," he relayed President Jokowi's unwavering determination.
With conviction, General Sigit projected that the AMMTC assembly will retain its significance as a conduit for meaningful regional engagement and strategy formulation. The allegiance between participating nations is poised to yield concrete accomplishments that transcend borders and reverberate within and beyond the region. "In this distinguished congregation, permit me to reaffirm the indispensable role of communication and cooperation in the preservation of regional stability, security, and peace. Your endorsement, insights, and invaluable contributions within this meeting will undoubtedly shape its outcomes," he concluded, encapsulating the imperative nature of collective action and shared purpose.
