Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura.  The Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Indonesian Military have been intensifying efforts to restore peace and security in Sugapa, the capital of Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, following disruptions by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). "It is undeniable that recovery efforts are underway, and the security situation is gradually normalizing," said Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri, the  Chief of Papua Regional Police on Sunday (28/1/2024). Acknowledging the need for caution, flight services, particularly those involving civilian passengers, remain restricted to prevent any unforeseen incidents, he said, antaranews.com reported. "I have briefed Pertamina's leadership on the current situation during my recent visit to the Papua Police," Chief Fakhiri said, referring to the state-owned oil company. He expressed optimism that flight services will soon resume normal operations after the security situation continues to improve, Despite the persistence of attacks by the KKB, with incidents of gunfire at security forces posts from Friday (19/1/2024) to Thursday (25/1/2024), the intensity has somewhat diminished compared to the initial four days. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) member, First Brigadier (posthumous) Alfando Steven Karamoy, a civilian and the arson civilian homes. Isak Samuel Wopari, the Operational Director of the Regional Development Bank (BPD) Papua, separately acknowledged that due to the ongoing incidents in Sugapa, staff from the branch office were evacuated to Timika. "Currently stationed in Nabire and integrated with the BPD Papua Branch Office, their return to Sugapa remains uncertain as we await assurances of security," he said. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
