Inp.polri.go.id - Labuan Bajo. The Indonesian National Police (INP) has intensified collaborative efforts to combat terrorism as part of the agenda at the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC), currently underway in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Police Senior Superintendent Aswin Siregar, the Spokesperson for Densus 88 Anti-Terror Unit, emphasized the inherent transnational character of terrorism, a crime that transcends national boundaries. Consequently, countering terrorism has emerged as a focal point during the deliberations of the 17th AMMTC. "One terrorist group located in a single country poses a threat to the entire region," he said as quoted by Antara on Tuesday (22/8/23). He highlighted that many terrorist networks and organizations operate not within the confines of a singular nation, but rather span across several countries. This interconnectedness extends globally, transcending not only the ASEAN region but also encompassing various countries in the Middle East and beyond. In light of these complexities, Indonesia champions the exchange of information and the harmonization of perspectives on terrorism threats among ASEAN member states, he added. This cooperation framework entails a multifaceted approach, spanning the realms of addressing terrorism financing, countering the dissemination of extremist ideologies on social media, and engaging in collaborative initiatives to bolster preventive and intervention capacities across the ASEAN region.
