inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Head of Jakarta Environment Asep Kuswanto reveals the provincial government is currently studying the development of an island for Jakarta agglomeration area trash management.

"This is a new idea, and hopefully could be realized soon," he said, quoted from RRI on Saturday (7/27/2024).

He says that the island development could begin in 2027 after all things considered smoothly.

"This year we are constructing its study, then in 2025 to 2026 we will work on its permit," continued Asep.

Asep adds that the development of this island becomes a priority due to land limitations for trash and waste management.

The idea to develop the island came from the Acting Jakarta Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, which aims to add more 200 to 300 hectares of land for waste management.

According to him, Jakartans and the people surrounding the city cannot always rely on the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site.

“With the development of this new island, we can manage the waste of Greater Jakarta for the next 100 years,” concluded Asep.
