Inp.polri.go.id - Sentani. The Bhayangkara Community Service and Public Order Affairs (Bhabinkamtibmas) of the Kemtuk Gresi Sector Police in Jayapura have taken the initiative to educate elders in Yanbra Village, Kemtuk Gresi District, through literacy programs, antaranews.com reported. "This activity is part of a scheduled routine by me and my colleague, Senior Brigadier Leo Andreas Purba," said Assistant Second Inspector Yosafat Bemey, a Bhabinkamtibmas member at the Kemtuk Gresi Sector Police. The program unfolded in a designated learning house provided by the 72-year-old learner, Mrs. Belandina Nasadit. "Reading and writing learning activities are held weekly through the Jayapura Police Literacy Movement (Gabus) program," he said. Yosafat elaborated on the Gabus program's primary objective, emphasizing its aim to empower the community by nurturing literacy skills, equipping individuals to comprehend and proficiently use letters and numbers. The inaugural class comprised nine students, spanning ages from 24 to  72. Expressing optimism about the program's impact, he said, "We envision that this initiative will significantly contribute to enhancing educational quality, especially in literacy, for residents in villages and the interior of Papua."
