The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) carried out the burning of traditional Honai houses in Kunga Village, Ilaga District, and the SMPN 1 Gome Building on Friday (10/11), confirmed Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady, the Papua Regional Police's Head of Public Relations on Saturday (11/11/23). He revealed that the incident unfolded around 5.15 pm when the SMPN 1 Gome building was set ablaze, accompanied by 10 shots of red flares originating from three different directions. "Minutes later, gunshots erupted from approximately 400 meters away, targeting the Preparation Kodim Post and believed to be executed by the KKB. In response, security personnel engaged in gunfire, forcing the group to retreat towards Kunga Village," he stated. He said that joint security forces in Puncak Regency are intensifying security measures to prevent further incidents following the attack and are pursuing the individuals responsible. (ar/ay/pr/nm)
