Inp.polri.go.id - Sorong. The General Election Commission (KPU) of Southwest Papua Province has confirmed the relocation of 31 polling stations from five districts prone to disturbances by armed criminal groups (KKB) in Maybrat Regency to the Yayapa area, Aifat Timur District, an official said on Monday (29/1/2024) Andarias Kambu, the Chairman of KPU Southwest Papua, explained that the relocation was a result of an agreement among all stakeholders to ensure that the public could exercise their voting rights on 14 February 2024, antaranews.com reported. "There are 31 TPS from five districts mapped as KKB-prone areas relocated to what is considered a safe place, namely Yayapa Aifat Timur. The voting and vote-counting processes will take place there," he said. Andarias said that the West Papua Regional Police and the military will support the security of the election process in the province, particularly in vulnerable areas like Maybrat regency to allow voters exercise their voting rights. "We also expect the active participation of the public in exercising their voting rights. The election is a means of democratic sovereignty. All citizens with voting rights can cast their votes at all polling stations because it will determine the direction of national and regional development policies for the next five years," he added. The KPU Southwest Papua has determined that the total number of eligible voters on the Permanent Voter List (DPT) in Southwest Papua Province is 440,826 people, spread across five regencies and the city of Sorong, 132 districts, 1,013 urban villages, and villages.
