Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The Kulon Progo Sub-regional Police warned against air balloon flights due to safety concerns and potential disruptions to Yogyakarta International Airport.

Kulonprogo Police Chief Superintendent Nunuk Setiyowati stressed on Sunday (21/4/2024) the need for proper permits, as unauthorized flights are illegal under aviation law and can result in severe penalties.

Flight approval from local authorities, police, and airport officials is mandatory, she said, as reported by antaranews.com.

Balloon specifications included a maximum diameter of 4 meters, height of 7 meters, and a tethered altitude of 150 meters. The use of fire or explosives is strictly prohibited.  Flight times must align with airport permits due to high air traffic.

Those planning flights are urged to notify authorities beforehand.

Chief Nunuk has instructed personnel to enhance awareness of flight safety. Preemptive measures were implemented during the fasting month Ramadan, and monitoring has increased following a recent incident near Yogyakarta International Aiport.
