Inp.polri.go.id - Gorontalo. A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Gorontalo early Tuesday morning (24/9/2024), but the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that it does not pose a tsunami threat.
According to BMKG, the earthquake's epicenter was located 74 kilometers southwest of Gorontalo at a depth of 145 kilometers, with tremors felt as far as Bolaang Mongondow, North Sulawesi.
A local resident, Aisiyah Apriliani, described the strong tremors shaking windows and other items in her house.
"I was startled and woke up because everything was shaking," she said, as reported by antaranews.com..
She quickly alerted her family to leave the house for safety. In other areas, such as Gorontalo Regency, residents reported feeling strong tremors for several seconds.
