Inp.polri.go.id - Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia and Indonesia will resume negotiations on the Sulawesi Sea maritime border next week, in Jakarta, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He confirmed that representatives from Sarawak and Sabah will attend, as their consent is crucial to finalize maritime boundaries.
“This July 29, we will continue the discussion in Jakarta,” Prime Minister Anwar said during a parliamentary session on Tuesday (22/7/2025) in Kuala Lumpur, as reported by antaranews.com
He emphasized that official meetings with Indonesia or Singapore always include Sarawak’s Premier and Sabah’s Chief Minister. While no agreement has been reached so far on the Sulawesi Sea boundary, Malaysia maintains its position based on the 1979 map and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling on Sipadan and Ligitan Islands.
“I share the same spirit as previous prime ministers: to avoid tension in disputed areas. Indonesia is a friendly nation with whom we have excellent relations,” Prime Minister Anwar said.
Talks will also cover the disputed ND6 and ND7 (Ambalat) oil and gas blocks.
