Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. A 68-year-old man was found dead after being attacked by a crocodile while fishing in a canal in Teluk Nilap, Rokan Hilir, Riau Province on Friday (20/9/2024).

Rokan Hilir Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Isa Imam Syahroni confirmed that the victim, identified as Yasim, had told his wife he was going fishing in Teluk Durian, but he did not return home.

Worried, his family alerted local residents, who searched for him at the fishing spot but could not find him, according to antaranews.com.

On Friday morning, a resident heard splashing sounds 200 meters away and found Yasim’s clothes and fishing gear. Upon checking the source of the noise, they saw a crocodile with a lifeless, unclothed body in its jaws.

The villagers used a generator to stun the crocodile and retrieve the body. However, Yasim's head was missing. Upon cutting open the crocodile’s stomach, they found his head inside.

Medical examination revealed no other signs of violence, confirming Yasim's death was caused by the crocodile. His family declined an autopsy and accepted his passing.
