inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Vice Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria says that since 2017 to 2024, his party through the cekrekening.id service has logged 572,000 reports of online scams.

“Through the cekrekening.id service, the public complaint facility to report bank account numbers used for scam, has recorded 572,000 online scams from 2017 to 2024,” says Nezar on Tuesday (9/3/2024).

He explains that the online scam practices were dominated with online transactions of 528,415 cases and online investment scam of 43,770 cases.

Nezar is aware that technology advancement not only brings benefit to society and business but also harm in data security and systems.

According to the National Cyber Security Index (NCSI) in 2023, Indonesia ranked 49th from 176 states with the most cyber attack numbers. In ASEAN, Indonesia ranked 5th among other members.

On the other hand, BSSN records there are hundreds of millions of cyber attacks every year. In 2023, there were 279 million cyber attacks recorded, 24% lower than 2022 with the total cyber attacks reaching 370 million.

Nezar says to protect the digital ecosystem of Indonesia to ensure law enforcement and cyber attack prevention, the ministry has designed various regulations that aim to protect the Indonesian digital space.

One of the regulations is Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Revision of the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions, and Government Regulation Number 71 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions.

“The regulation is part of the Indonesian government's effort to manage the activity in digital space to be safer and more reliable,” explained the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information.
