Inp.polri.go.id - Ternate. Mount Dukono, an active volcano in North Halmahera, North Maluku, erupted on Sunday afternoon at 2.24 pm local time, emitting a 3,000-meter ash column above its peak, reaching an altitude of 4,087 meters.

"Earlier this afternoon, Mount Dukono erupted, producing a thick ash column reaching 3,000 meters," said the Mount Dukono Observation Post in Galela, North Halmahera, in a statement as quoted by antaranews.com.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color, with a dense intensity drifting west and northwest. The seismic activity was recorded with a maximum amplitude of 27 millimeters and a duration of 293.41 seconds, according to data from the observation post in Mamuya village.

The volcano, standing at 1,335 meters above sea level, remains at Level II or “Alert” status. Authorities have advised residents, visitors, and tourists to refrain from activities within a three-kilometer radius of the summit.

“Residents are also urged to wear masks and goggles while outdoors to protect themselves from volcanic ash exposure,” the Mount Dukono Observation Post added.

Mount Dukono is among Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, frequently emitting ash plumes impacting nearby communities.
