Inp.polri.go.id - Batusangkar.  Five villages in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, suffered from rain-triggered lahar dingin floods from Mount Marapi on Friday afternoon until evening. "Lahar dingin", or literally "cold lava", refers to volcanic mudflows or debris flows that occur during or after a volcanic eruption. Dr. Ermon Revlin, the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tanah Datar, explained that heavy rain near Mount Marapi's peak caused significant flows into rivers originating from the mountain, according to antaranews.com. The affected villages include Aia Angek in X Koto District, Sabu in Batipuh District, Sungai Jambu in Pariangan District, Limo Kaum in Lima Kaum District, and Sungai Tarab in Sungai Tarab District. The flood in Aia Angek village blocked the Bukittinggi-Padang national road for several hours on Friday evening. Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra reminded residents, especially those near rivers originating from Mount Marapi, to remain vigilant. Budi Perwira Negara, the Head of BPBD of Agam Regency, said  on Saturday (6/4/2024), that the team comprises military, police, and various agencies have clearing debris burying homes and roads. In addition, three heavy equipment units aid the cleaning. Clearance efforts are ongoing in Sungai Pua and Canduang districts. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
