Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Ruang in Sitaro Regency, North Sulawesi, erupted on Wednesday (17/4/2024), sending volcanic lightning flashes and volcanic ash shooting three kilometers high.
Julius Rampolii from the Mount Ruang Observation Post, said the ash column's intense billowing toward the south.
The eruption, ongoing as of the latest update, commenced at 8.15 pm on the same day, following a status upgrade from Normal to Alert by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) on Tuesday, according to antaranews.com.
Residents were told to avoid the four-kilometer radius around the active crater.
Mount Ruang, situated in Tulusan Village, remains under constant surveillance at the Mount Observing Post.
Authorities prioritized monitoring and proactive measures to ensure public safety amid nature's dynamic forces.
