Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed speculation about establishing diplomatic relations with Israel to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). "There are no plans to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, given the ongoing situation in Gaza," said Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, on Thursday evening (11/4/2024). Indonesia reaffirmed its support for Palestinian independence through a two-state solution, according to antaranews.com. The roadmap for Indonesia's OECD membership is set for adoption in May, requiring thorough preparations. Iqbal noted that OECD membership varies by country, taking three to five years. Previous reports suggested Indonesia would normalize ties with Israel for OECD entry, following secret discussions. Normalization would signify a significant change amidst Gaza's turmoil. Indonesia's rapid accession process reflects its ambition, hoping for OECD entry in two to three years. OECD entry promises a boost to Indonesia's economy, potentially increasing investment and GDP.
