Inp.polri.go.id - Tanjung Selor. The North Kalimantan Regional Police intercepted two attempted smuggling of a total 7.8 kilograms of methamphetamine from Malaysia. Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya, the Chief of the North Kalimantan Police, disclosed on Thursday (14/3/2024) that the evidence was obtained from two separate arrests earlier this month. The Drug Investigation Directorate of the North Kalimantan Police and the Nunukan Police arrested a suspect, identified as 'S', and foiled the smuggling of 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine from Malaysia in Sebatik, Nunukan Regency, on 6 March 2024. Later that day, personnel from the North Kalimantan Police Water and Air Police Directorate arrested suspects 'MS' and 'SH' in the waters of Juata Laut, Tarakan City, and confiscated a black backpack containing six packages of methamphetamine wrapped in green packaging, each weighing one kilogram. "In total, the evidence seized from these two cases amounted to 7.8 kilograms," Chief Daniel said. The three suspects are facing charges under Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. The penalties for these offenses include the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years' imprisonment.
