Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) estimated the country’s online gambling turnover could reach Rp150.36 trillion (US$9.3 billion) by the end of 2025.
“With stronger enforcement from Communication Minister Meutya Hafid and Indonesian National Police Chief Listyo Sigi Prabowot, we expect a 58.21 percent reduction,” said PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana on Thursday (8/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
He added that government intervention could limit deposits to Rp 28.98 trillion. Ivan warned that without firm action, gambling turnover could balloon to Rp481 trillion—or even Rp1,100 trillion if boosted by fintech services.
He noted that 3.8 million of 8.8 million online gamblers in 2024 were in debt. Low-income earners are the most vulnerable.
“In Q1 2025, 71.6 percent of online gamblers earned less than Rp 5 million per month,” Ivan said.
Many spend up to 90 percent of their income on gambling, worsening financial hardship.
