Police Arrest Mexican Fugitive in Bali Shooting

Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro, the Director of the Indonesian National Police (INP) General Crime Investigation, announced the arrest of Sicairos Valdes Roberto (27), a Mexican citizen, who had escaped after shooting Turkish citizen Turan Mahmet in Bali. "He was trying to travel to Jakarta by road, planning to board a bus," he said on Friday (2/2/2024). Roberto is a suspect accused of attempting premeditated murder against Mahmet. The other three suspects, Aramburo Contreras Jose Alfonso (32), Mayorquin Eacobedo Juan Antonio (24), and Deraz Gonzalez Victor Eduardo (36), were arrested  by a joint team from the INP Headquarters, Bali Regional Police, and Badung Sub-Regional Police on 27 January 2024 in Jimbaran. "He (Sicairos) is the leader of the group that planned the activities," said Djuhandhani. The alleged criminal acts, including attempted premeditated murder, occurred on 23 January 2024, around 01.18 am at The Palm House, Mengwi District, Badung Regency, Bali. The four suspects targeted Mehmet and three others in the villa. Mehmet sustained two gunshot wounds, while the other three escaped. Cash amounting to Rp 30 million and USD 4,000, owned by Turan Muhammat Enes, the brother of Mehmet, was taken by the suspects. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
