Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The North Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police has named a second-year cadet from the state maritime institute Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP), as the suspect for the assault resulting in the death of a first-year cadet on Friday (3/5).

"After a 24-hour investigation, we identified one perpetrator who caused the death of the first-year cadet," said North Jakarta Police Chief Police Senior Superintendent Gidion Arif Setyawan on Saturday (4/5/2024).

The suspect is identified as TRS, who faces charges under Article 338 in conjunction with Article 351 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 15 years' imprisonment.

Chief Gidion said that the suspect acted alone in the assault in the campus bathroom, which eventually killed Putu Satria Ananta Rustika (19).

The assault is believed to stem from a tradition where senior cadets discipline junior ones through violent means, he said. 

The case disclosure was prompted by Putu’s family's report to the North Jakarta Police.
