Inp.polri.go.id - New. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono declared that political support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is not optional but essential.
“Political support is not a choice but a necessity, particularly regarding the renewal of its mandate,” said the minister at the Annual Ministerial Meeting on UNRWA, held on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly on Thursday (25/9/2025), as reported by antaranews.com
Minister Sugioni underlined Indonesia’s increasing backing for UNRWA, stressing that its role is both vital and tangible for millions of Palestinians. Hewarned that UNRWA faces unprecedented challenges, including political pressure, funding shortfalls, and attempts to weaken or dismantle the agency.
Minister Sugio noted Israel’s restrictions on UNRWA activities in occupied territories and the termination of the 1967 agreement that granted privileges to its staff. Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to contribute through government channels and innovative funding schemes to ensure UNRWA continues serving Palestinian refugees.
