Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Monday (21/8/23). The President emphasized the AMMTC is a crucial platform to reinforce the handling of transnational crimes within ASEAN member nations. Moreover, in readiness to confront global challenges, ASEAN countries must commit to eradicating transnational crimes. "With the current technological advancements, transnational crimes are becoming more massive and complex in nature. Consequently, the response must also be adaptive, particularly against crimes such as terrorism, human trafficking, and narcotics offenses," the President said. Furthermore, the President underscored the importance of continual collaboration, information sharing, technological integration, and the elevation of capabilities and professionalism within law enforcement agencies across ASEAN countries. As the 17th AMMTC unfolds, the aspiration is for a unified consensus on these aspects. Concluding his remarks, the President expressed his hope, "I aspire that from this meeting, a responsive spirit of cooperation will be formulated, encompassing strategic steps to safeguard an ASEAN region that is secure, peaceful, and prosperous."
