inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Bank (BI) says that the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) can be used by Indonesians shopping in other countries, such as South Korea, India, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“Soon, we will have the agreement on QRIS cross border with India, South Korea, Japan, and UAE. Just wait for it, you will later be able to buy tteokbokki and sushi with QRIS,” says the Deputy Governor of BI, Filianingsih Hendarta on Wednesday (7/17/2024).

Previously, Indonesia has agreed on QRIS cooperation with various countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Filianingsih explains that there is an increase in QRIS transactions on the agreement. For example, the inbound transaction or transaction by foreigners in Indonesia, there is an increase of 13 percent for month to month between Thailand and Indonesia. Most Thai tourists used QRIS for transactions in Jakarta and West Java.

Meanwhile, transactions by Singaporeans in Indonesia are increasing 28 percent month to month and mostly used by the tourists in Jakarta and Riau.

On the other hand, transactions by Malaysians increased for eight percent month to month with most transactions occurring in Jakarta and West Java.

Therefore, BI continues to strengthen their mix of monetary, macroprudential and payment system policies to maintain stability and support economic growth amidst high global financial market uncertainty.
