Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. Riau Regional Police are wary of illegal buying and selling of protected animals or animal parts through social media. This was revealed in the case of protected animals some time ago.
Head of Public Affairs of Riau Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Sunarto said the community can take part by maintaining the protected animal ecosystem. In cases of selling, hunting or killing protected animals, the community ca report them to the authorities.
"We convey this appeal so we can pass it on to our grandchildren," Police Grand Commissioner Sunarto said, Tuesday (07/20/21).
Previously, the Directorate of Special Crimes of Riau Regional Police managed to arrest AH (28) as violating Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems law.
AH is suspected of selling hornbills or hornbill beaks (Buceros rhinoceros) and Sumatran tiger nails.
AH (28) explained the hornbill beak that came from the Kalimantan area was purchased through social media at a price of IDR 1.1 million. The perpetrator also claimed to be selling it for IDR 15 million.
The evidence that was successfully confiscated was five hornbill beaks and one Sumatran tiger hooves, which would be sold again.
AH was charged with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter d in conjunction with Article 40 paragraph (2) of Law Number 5/1990 on Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Ecosystems in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code with a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of IDR 100 million.
