np.polri.go.id - Ternate. A team of rescuers from Ternate, North Maluku, headed to Tagulandang waters in Kepulauan Sitaro district, North Sulawesi province, on Wednesday (24/1/2024) to assist in the search for six missing passengers from a sunken ship.
The rescuers boarded the 237 Pandudewanata boat, owned by the Ternate office of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), to assist in the SAR operation in North Sulawesi, said Basarnas Ternate Office Chief Fathur Rahman.
The LCT Bora V ship capsized in Tagulandang waters in Sitaro Islands regency after being hit by rogue waves amid extreme weather conditions at around 9.30 pm on Sunday, antaranews.com reported.
The ill-fated passenger vessel, whose ramp door reportedly fell off after being hit by rogue waves, was carrying 18 people. About 10 of them survived the shipwreck, two died and six others are missing, Chief Rahman said,
The survivors were rescued by a fishing boat, MV Mitra Bahari, in Ternate's Batang Dua waters.
