Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Soekarno-Hatta City Sub-regional Police have revealed a human trafficking operation driven by false promises of lucrative jobs in Cambodia.

Two suspects, identified as MZ and PJ, were arrested after attempting to send 14 Indonesian migrant workers abroad illegally.

According to Soekarno Hatta Police Head of Criminal Investigation, Senior Inspector Reza Fahlevi, the victims were lured through social media platforms like Telegram with offers of jobs in companies, restaurants, and customer service roles. However, these offers were made without following proper legal procedures.

“The victims were enticed with the promise of high-paying jobs in Cambodia, but the process was entirely non-procedural," he said on Tuesday (17/9/2024).

Both suspects promised the victims high salaries without adhering to official migrant worker regulations. For their involvement, suspects MZ and PJ are charged under the Migrant Worker Protection Law and the Anti-Human Trafficking Law, which could lead to 10 years in prison and fines of up to Rp 15 billion.

The police urged the public to be cautious of similar fraudulent schemes targeting vulnerable workers.
