Inp.polri.go.id - Labuan Bajo. President Joko Widodo emphasized the commitment of the Indonesian government to continue to strengthen the protection of Indonesian citizens (WNI). One of the things that has been done is the process of evacuating Indonesian citizens from Sudan.

" Amid the various difficulties there, the government has successfully evacuated Indonesian citizens from Sudan. As of today, the number of Indonesian citizens who have been evacuated is 969 people, 936 have returned home and 33 are already in safe locations outside Sudan," said President Jokowi in a press conference at the Meruorah Hotel, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Monday (8/5/23).

Jokowi stated that the government would maintain this commitment. "In the future, we will continue to improve and strengthen the protection of Indonesian citizens," said the President.

Previously, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi also explained the evacuation of Indonesian citizens from Sudan. The effort is very carefully designed. The evacuation was carried out in a quiet but fast operation.

"Why do we always choose a quiet operation, because everything concerns the safety and security of Indonesian citizens whom we will evacuate because the local situation is always very dynamic, very fluid, and can threaten the safety of Indonesian citizens," he explained.
