The ministry has also handled more than 29,000 insertion of gambling pages on official websites of government agencies and educational institutions.
“Our target is to minimize all online gambling practices in Indonesia. We aim to be present for our people, to prevent them from getting addicted to online gambling as that is our responsibility,” says Minister Budi on Wednesday (9/18/2024).
The ministry also carried out cyber patrol and found many keywords related to online gambling on digital platforms. According to the ministry, 20,841 keywords related to online gambling have been reported to Google while 5,173 keywords have been reported to Meta.
Furthermore, the ministry also inspects the e-wallet indicated to be used for online gambling transactions and reports 573 e-wallet accounts to Indonesian Bank to be banned.
In eradicating online gambling practice, government has given warning to digital platform to manage their public Domain Name System as there are cracks that often being taken advantage of by online gambling.
“In addition, the policy of disconnecting Network Access Points (NAP) from countries such as Cambodia and the Philippines has also been strengthened, as well as blocking free VPNs used to access gambling sites," explained the Minister of Communication and Information.
Quoting the data of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) in July 2024, deposits on online gambling sites fell 50 percent compared to before the online gambling eradication initiative was carried out.
