inp.polri.go.id – Yogyakarta. Two perpetrators of protected animal traffickers were arrested by Special Crimes Investigation Directorate of Yogyakarta Regional Police. The two perpetrators' initials are GS (32) and EP (23) who come from Central Java.
Deputy Director of Special Crimes of Yogyakarta Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant FX Endriadi said, the case was resolved from cyber patrol carried out by the police. The police received posts on social media related to the sale of Maluku parrot for IDR 1 million and the Lutung Budeng for IDR 1.5 million.
Police then coordinated with Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) to ensure the animal was protected animal. After it is known that the bird is protected, police then arrested GS in the Umbulharjo area, Yogyakarta, on June 15, 2021.
"During the arrest, we also confiscated evidence in the form of eight birds, a cage, a cellphone and IDR 1 million in cash," the Deputy Director of Crimes Investigation explained at Yogyakarta Regional Police, Wednesday (06/30/2021).
From the inspection, GS got the bird by buying it online in East Java. This bird is then sent via ground transportation. Meanwhile, EP was arrested in Bogem field, Kalasan, Sleman. The police who received information on the sale and purchase of langur budeng disguised themselves as buyers and agreed to meet to conduct COD.
"When they met, the officers then arrested the perpetrator. After that, they confessed the langur was obtained from someone in East Java," the Deputy Director of Crimes Investigation explained at Yogyakarta Regional Police.
From the two perpetrators, police confiscated evidence of three budeng langurs (Trachypithecus auratus), two Tanimbar parrots (Eos reticulata) and one Ternate Katsuri (Lorius Garrulous), Iris Lorikeet (Psitteuteles iris), Timor Lorikeet, ( Trichoglossus euteles), Yellow Crested Cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea), Tanimbar/Goffin Cockatoo (Cacatua Goffiniana) and Ambon King Parrot (Alisterus amboinensis).
For their actions, the perpetrators will be charged with Article 40 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter A of Republic of Indonesia (RI) Law No. 5 the Year 1990 on Natural Resources Conservation, with maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of IDR 100 million.
