The bodies of 16 gold miners, victims of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), have been recovered from multiple locations in Yahukimo and Pegunungan Bintang Regencies, Papua, according to Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, The Head of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, on Wednesday(16/4/2025).
"Reports confirm that 16 bodies were found in the two regencies. Fifteen were buried in Dekai, Yahukimo, and one in Tanah Merah, Bintang Mountains. The latter was a gold miner from Kawe," he said, as quoted bynantaranews.com.
All bodies have been buried, and search operations are now concluded in the area, with no new reports of victims.
“We are awaiting confirmation from Dekai to decide whether the humanitarian operation will continue or conclude," Chief Faizal added.
The operation involved 500 joint personnel from the Indonesian National Police (INP) Indonesian Military (TNI), supported by three aircraft, including two police planes and a helicopter. The difficult terrain contributed to the extensive deployment.
