The Task Force for Combatting Human Trafficking Crimes (Satgas TPPO) of the Indonesian National Police (INP) and Regional Police under the leadership of the Chief of INP Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has successfully rescued 2.186 victims from 717 cases. During a press conference on Wednesday (26/7/223), Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, the Head of the Public Relations (PR) Division of the INP, stated that the 717 cases were uncovered between June 5 and July 25, 2023. "Out of the 717 reports, investigators managed to arrest 855 suspects," he said. Explaining the modus operandi employed by the suspects, he pointed out that the most prevalent method was enticing victims with the promises of employment as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) or Domestic Workers (PRT), resulting in a total of 481 cases. In addition to this, the investigators uncovered 216 cases where victims were forced into Commercial Sex Work (PSK), 9 cases of victims exploited as Ship Crew Members (ABK), and 54 cases of child exploitation. In his closing statements, he conveyed a message from the Chief of INP, urging the public not to be easily enticed by offers of seemingly high-paying jobs, both within the country and abroad. Stressing the significance of ensuring the legitimacy of employment agencies, the Chief of INP, he said, underscored the importance of securing social protection, welfare, and legal rights for prospective workers.
