Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. 16 Indonesian citizens who were suspected to be the victims of human trafficking (TPPO) in Myanmar had been successfully released, bringing the total number of released citizens to 20, the Head of Public Relations Division of Indonesian National Police (INP) Inspector General Sandi Nugroho confirmed on Sunday (7/5/23).

"In general, they appeared to be in good health," he said.

The release process began when the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok received information from the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon and GASO about the crossing of the 16 Indonesian citizens with the assistance of the Border Guard Forces (BGF) in Myanmar.

The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok subsequently brought the citizens to stay at a hotel that had been prepared in Maesot. Today, 20 of the Indonesian citizens were taken to Bangkok for further handling. A team from INP flew to Bangkok to investigate the incident.

"The INP team consisting of International Relations Division and Criminal Investigation Agency personnel flew to Bangkok today to investigate the incident and coordinate with related agencies for their repatriation," he concluded.
