inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A bus falls into a ravine in southern Peru. A total of 21 people died in the accident, while 20 others were injured.

"Twenty injured people were taken to hospital, while rescue teams worked to remove bodies from the wreckage of the bus," said Road Safety Division Director Jhonny Valderrama, quoted by AFP, on Tuesday (7/16/2024).

Local police said the bus carrying more than 40 passengers was leaving Lima for Andes Ayacucho. Unfortunately the bus went off the road and fell into a ravine 200 meters deep.

"I want to express my sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones," Peruvian Transport Minister Raul Perez told reporters.

According to official data, 70 percent of accidents in Peru are caused by human factors such as driver incompetence or fatigue.
