inp.polri.go.id - Pringsewu. Police have successfully raided an illegal bike racing arena in Sumatra West Cross Road, Pekon Wates, Gadingrejo, Pringsewu.

The raid was conducted in response to the increasing illegal racing activities that have disturbed the public and road users.

Hundreds of participants, mostly young people, tried to escape to avoid being chased by the police. Some of them even tried to break through the police's encirclement, while others fell and entered the rice fields.

Hundreds of motorcycles that were successfully secured in this raid were then taken to the Pringsewu Sub-regional Police Headquarters. The owners were forced to push their own bikes as part of the deterrent effect applied by the police.

Head of Pringsewu Sub-regional Police, Superintendent Mochamad Yunnus Saputra says that the operation was to suppress the number of illegal racing occurrences that is growing in the last several weeks.

“We have seen the number of illegal racing activities increasing, raising our concern on the potential of traffic accidents and public disturbances. Thus, we are doing this raid in order to maintain public safety and security,” says Yunnus on Sunday (2/2/2025).

For information, in the operation, the police managed to secure two illegal racing jockeys, 292 motorbikes, and 466 people suspected of being involved in this illegal activity.

All participants who were secured have been reprimanded and warned so that they do not repeat their actions in the future. Meanwhile, the confiscated vehicles can only be taken after their owners have fulfilled the requirements determined by the police.

To prevent similar incidents, he emphasized that his party will continue to hold raids every Saturday night or at other times according to the movement patterns of the illegal racers.

"We will continue to take action so that this activity can be suppressed to a minimum," he said.
